Split a bill without losing a cent

Enter the full amount to share and the number of people. Include tax, service charges, and any tip in that amount. If needed, work out the tip with the Tip calculator first.

A 100.00 bill split three ways cannot produce three identical two-decimal payments. One person pays 33.34 and two pay 33.33. Together they pay exactly 100.00. A 90.00 bill split three ways is 30.00 each.

    How the remainder works

The calculator converts the total to hundredths, divides by the number of people, and rounds each starting share down. It then adds 0.01 to as many shares as needed to cover the remainder. No payment differs from another by more than 0.01.

This is useful for shared meals, tickets, or other equal group costs. It does not decide what is fair when people ordered different things or already paid different amounts.

    Limits

Enter an amount above zero and up to 10,000,000, with no more than two decimal places, and between 1 and 1,000 people. Leave out commas and currency symbols. Entries are processed in your browser and are not saved or put in the page address.

    FAQs

Does the total include tax and tip?

Include them yourself in the total you enter. This tool divides that total without adding any charges. Use the Tip calculator first if you need help finding the tip.

Why do some people pay one cent more?

Some totals cannot be divided evenly into two-decimal payments. The calculator distributes leftover cents one at a time so that payments differ by at most one cent and add up to the exact total. You choose who pays the extra cent.

Can I split by what each person ordered?

This tool divides the total evenly. It does not assign items, unequal shares, debts, or reimbursements.

Does it work with any currency?

Use one currency throughout. Results use two decimal places without converting currencies. Cash rounding or currencies with a different smallest unit are not covered.

For example: "Count the weekdays until a date, without holidays."
