Set a timer

Enter hours, minutes, and seconds, or choose a 1, 5, 10, or 25 minute preset. Start timer begins the countdown. The progress bar fills as time passes.

Pause holds the remaining time. Resume continues without counting the pause. Reset returns to your chosen duration so you can edit it or run it again.

For example, pause a five-minute timer after two minutes. It holds at three minutes until you resume. Pausing for ten minutes does not use up those remaining three minutes.

Background timing and notifications

The countdown compares your device’s current time with the finish time. It does not assume the browser updates exactly once per second. When you return to an open tab, the display catches up.

Browser notifications are optional and need permission. Your browser or device can delay them, especially during sleep or when a page is suspended. Keep a dedicated alarm for anything that must alert you reliably. This timer does not play a sound of its own.

If you want to count upward or record laps instead, use the Stopwatch.

FAQs

Can I use another tab while it runs?

Yes, while this page stays alive. The timer recalculates from its finish time when the browser updates it, so delayed screen updates do not add extra time. Browser suspension, device sleep, or closing the page can delay or prevent the alert.

Will I get a notification?

Only if you choose Enable completion notification, your browser supports it, and you grant permission. Browser and device settings can still block or delay delivery. There is no alert after the page is closed or discarded.

Can I change the duration while it runs?

Reset first. Pause holds the remaining time, and Resume continues from there. Reset stops the timer and makes the duration editable again.

Does it keep counting after I reload?

No. Reloading starts a fresh timer. No timer history is saved.

Have an idea for a tool I should add? Send it in. I read every suggestion and choose which ones to build next.

For example: "Count the weekdays until a date, without holidays."
