One time, three ways to write it

2:30 PM, 14:30, and 1430 describe the same time of day. Choose the format you have and the format you want, then enter your time. The result keeps the minutes unchanged.

Converting by hand

For afternoon and evening times from 1 PM through 11 PM, add 12 to the hour. So 7:45 PM becomes 19:45, or 1945. Morning hours stay the same, with a leading zero when needed. The exceptions are 12 AM, which uses hour 00, and 12 PM, which uses hour 12.

For an important schedule, write noon or midnight and the date when ambiguity matters. NIST explains the noon and midnight conventions, including why 0000 and 2400 can refer to different date boundaries.

FAQs

What is military time?

In this converter, it is 24-hour clock time written as four digits without a colon. For example, 1430 means 14:30, or 2:30 PM.

What are noon and midnight?

Noon is 1200, 12:00, or 12:00 PM. Midnight at the start of a day is 0000, 00:00, or 12:00 AM.

Why is 2400 not accepted?

Some schedules use 2400 for the end of a date. This converter has no date field, so it uses 0000 for midnight instead of silently moving to the next date.

Does it convert time zones?

No. It changes how the same clock time is written. It does not adjust UTC offsets or daylight saving time.

Have an idea for a tool I should add? Send it in. I read every suggestion and choose which ones to build next.

For example: "Count the weekdays until a date, without holidays."
