Match the letters you actually have

Enter the letters without spaces. Choose whether results may use some of them or must use every tile. A search for listen, using all letters, can return enlist, inlets, listen, silent, and tinsel when those entries occur in the list. A search for ca? can use the blank for the T in cat.

Matching compares letter counts, so repeating a letter in a candidate word does not create an extra tile. Results are ordered longest first, then alphabetically. The page shows and copies up to 100 matches while reporting the total count.

Know which list you are searching

This tool uses the US English list from the English Speller Database project, release February 25, 2026, retrieved October 15, 2026. The filtered snapshot has 78,812 lowercase words with 2 to 15 ASCII letters.

The list loads when you first search. After loading, matching happens in your browser without sending your letters to a search service. Read the source release and word-list license notices. Your game’s official dictionary remains the deciding reference.

FAQs

How do blank tiles work?

Use ? for an unknown letter. Each question mark can supply one missing letter, with up to two blanks per search. A real letter is used before a blank when both could match.

Why is a word missing or unfamiliar?

Different dictionaries include different words. This snapshot is a spelling list, not a licensed tournament word list. It includes some abbreviations and excludes apostrophes, hyphens, accented letters, and words outside 2 to 15 letters.

Are repeated letters limited?

Yes. One A can be used once. A word needing two As requires two As in your entry or a blank tile for the missing one.

For example: "Count the weekdays until a date, without holidays."
