How to use it
Choose how many paragraphs, sentences, or words you need. The text updates as you change the number, and New text gives a fresh mix of words. Copy it with one click.
- Paragraphs suit page layouts, articles, and email templates.
- Sentences suit cards, captions, and short descriptions.
- Words give an exact count, for headings, buttons, and fields with a length limit. Asking for 5 words with the classic start gives “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.”
Leave Start with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” ticked if you want the classic opening line, the one people recognize as placeholder text at a glance. Untick it for text that starts at random.
Why placeholder text helps
When a design shows real words, people read them and comment on the copy instead of the design. Text that looks like language but can’t be read keeps attention on the type, spacing, and layout. It also shows clearly that the words are not final, so nobody mistakes a draft for the real thing.
Swap it out before anything goes live. Placeholder text on a live page looks unfinished to readers and gives search engines nothing to understand.
How it works
- The words come from the traditional lorem ipsum passage, which is based on Cicero’s De finibus bonorum et malorum (45 BC), sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33, with words cut, changed, and shuffled.
- Sentences are 6 to 14 words picked at random, never the same word twice in a row, with a comma in longer ones. Each starts with a capital and ends with a period.
- Paragraphs have 4 to 7 sentences. The classic first sentence, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.”, replaces the first one when that box is ticked.
- Limits: up to 50 paragraphs, 300 sentences, or 5,000 words at a time.
Limits
Real copy is rarely the same length as the placeholder. Headings and buttons in particular can run longer, so check designs with real words before you finish.
